As the dam releases whitewater into the west fork of the Tuckasegee River, witness a transformation of the serene High Falls into a formidable force, creating class IV rapids over a 5.5-mile stretch. The event is recommended for experienced boaters only due to the challenging nature of the rapids and the high flows.
Duke Energy releases these flows to comply with license requirements and neither encourages nor discourages recreational use of high flows by the public.
Visitors are advised to stay out of the water and enjoy the spectacle from a safe distance.
